Portfolio News: Genius Guild Founder Kathryn Finney Wins Prestigious Heinz Award
We want to extend a huge congratulations to Kathryn Finney, the founder of our portfolio fund Genius Guild, on winning the Heinz Award for the Economy!
At The Impact Seat Foundation, we believe in creating a world where women, particularly women of color, succeed as business leaders. Kathryn Finney embodies our mission by “disrupting the status quo in the tech field and boldly breaking down barriers that have long hindered Black and Brown women from entering the startup ecosystem.” She has paved the way for countless other Black and Latina women entrepreneurs, founding the social enterprise digitalundivided which aims to change the image of who can lead a company.
The truth is that Black women launch business at a faster rate than any other demographic, yet receive statistically close to $0 in VC funding. That’s an unacceptable and unfounded amount of innovation and potential revenue that goes unaccounted for. Kathryn’s work not only champions women of color nationwide, it is actively seeking to boost and change our economy for the better.
In a business landscape that can be homogenous, Finney shines as a beacon of hope for women of color everywhere. Her journey inspires and informs the path forward, proving that with passion and perseverance, change is indeed possible.
Her success is a reminder of the very reason she founded digitalundivided: “investing where others won’t, championing what others don’t and doubling down on opportunities that others consider small bets to bridge the digital divide.”
We’re proud to continue our ongoing support of Kathryn and her team at Genius Guild!
